Lisa Stansfield – All Around the World
If you ask me who was the last star born in the 80s, I probably say Lisa Stansfield. She was actually quite experienced, but se had never reached the great fame with the groups she had been a member of. But in 1989 she featured as lead voice in a house music hit. We already spoke about it, “People hold on“, by Coldcut featuring Lisa Stansfield.
That hit was a success, and the producers (including Lisa’s boyfriend) soon realized that they’d better focus on her solo career, since she had found great success the forst time she sang without them!
And they were so right: Lisa’s first solo hit, “All around the world”, really became a worldwide success. It actually stands as the symbol of Lisa’s long and brilliant career since that time up to now, when she still perorms as an outstanding soul singer.
Some part of the songs were actually quite randomic, like the “I, I, I” notes, which were a kind of placeholder waiting to have the final words.. that never came! Even the whispered words at the beginnning of the song were an invention of Lisa’s while recording the song, and they never changed. But we know, that’s how some great hits and some great careers happen to start!
And I don't think he's comin' back, comin' back
I did too much lyin', wasted too much time
Now I'm here a'cryin', I, I, I
Been around the world and I, I, I, I can't find my baby
