The Bangles – Eternal flame
“Eternal flame” by the Bangles has a peculiarity. It’s absolutely a fantastic love ballad, but it suffers from a problem. Many songs have this problem. I explain. Everybody knows this song. Many of us love this song. We all have heard it at least one time on the radio, on the tv, in a spot, in a movie. We know the song and we love the song. Yet, we don’t know who sings! Moreover, we absolutely don’t know the title! Or better, we think it has a completely different title!
For instance, I heard this song called “Close your eyes”, “Am I only dreaming”, “Say my name” and thousands other ways! Then, someone tells us if we like “Eternal flame” and we answer that we don’t know it!!!
In any case, after the great success of their fantastic album “Different lights”, like “Manic Monday” and “Walk like an Egyptian“, two years later the Bangles ride again! In Autumn 1988 they release the album “Everything”, which is very successful (though I wouldn’t say it has reached the previous album).
There’s a funny story (funny for someone, less for others). When Bangles’ singer Susanna Hoffs recorded the hit, she did it completely naked. In fact, one of the producers convinced her that Olivia Newton John used to do this in order to release the stress and feel more comfortable while singing. So she finally tried and did the same. At he end, the producer told her that this was just a funny joke!! 🙂 What a happy funny guy!!! – Assuming this story is true, of course!
