The Cure – Lovesong
Ok, we know that when we talk about Robert Smith and the Cure, nothing can really be common! “Lovesong” reached the market at the end of Summer 1989, about four months after the release of “Lullaby“, which introduced the new album “Disintegration”. Robert Smith wanted to create an album that mirrored his own feelings in that period, and he did, with dark and obsessive tunes.
But he actually added some real pearls, like “Lullaby” and “Lovesong”, completely different. In fact these melodies are absolutely not dark, and in this case the lyrics are also quite optimistic. He composed “Lovesong” as a wedding gift for his wife. And this song changed the perception of this album in many many people.
Actually, this song contains something obsessive! First, the title: depending on periods, the Cure adopted both spellings, with and without the space between love and song. Lyrics are also obsessive! In fact, all lyrics but the refrain consist of a single verse, repeated with just a word changing every time! Of course, with Robert Smith, nothing can be a common thing!

Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am young again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am fun again
