Chris De Burgh – High On Emotion
#quotefromthe80s
Living in a world that others cannot share
Yea here we go again
We are moving from a spark to a flame
I am high on emotion, high again

That’s what happened to Chris De Burgh’s career in May 1984. His father was a British diplomat with interests in agriculture in various parts of the world, so Chris grew up in places like Malta, Nigeria and Zaire. His mother is the daughter of a career Irish soldier, Sir Eric de Burgh, one of the commanders of the British Army in India during World War II.
In short, young Chris certainly did not have an ordinary childhood, and he chose his mother’s family name for his career . A very cultured person and passionate about languages and history, Chris has done so many years of musical experience. He was a supporter for Supertramp concerts, and with his group he absolutely created a niche audience.
Then, as was often the case in the 80s, at some point an album comes out more commercial than the others, and one of the songs suddenly becomes famous and climbs the charts. This was the case with the album “Man on the Line”: the album was quite successful, in some countries it reached the top of the hit parades. Not in England, but it happened in Europe. And above all, it happened to his beautiful “High on emotion”.
With a cute but certainly not phenomenal video, which shows him during a concert in a theater with his band, this song made Chris famous all over Europe. And this helped him reach the highest point of his career, which would come in a couple of years with “The Lady in Red”.
These were the stories of the 80s: unknown musicians, outside the star system, so far from Simon Le Bon or Madonna, who anyway managed to find their place in our memory with the force of their music.
