A night at the Opera

Today in Milan we celebrate the protector saint of the town, Sant’Ambrogio, and it’s a day of Christmas markets, fairs, and of the opening of the opera season at the Scala theatre – wondering how may of us dinosaurs have ever been there.
It came to my mind that in 1984 there was this song by Malcolm McLaren, in his opera period, creating pop songs out of opera melodies. Malcolm McLaren was a genius from other times, founder of Sex Pistols, always a man against, yet married to Vivienne Westwood and thus with a taste for pop bands look – he is said in the 90s to have suggested to RHCP an outfit like in Surfin’ USA – the guys gently declined).
Malcolm Mc Laren died in 2010. This song is kind of weird, definitely not a milestone of the 80s, with a video halfway between a spa ad and a B-movie trash, but I think we can listen to it! And if you also read the text while listening, you will appreciate it even more!

Calling Butterfly, Madam Butterfly
That’s the name he used to give me
He’s my man till the day I die
