An old European waltz

INXS – Never tear us apart

“Never tear us apart” is a sort of weird song. If we listen carefully, it has rhythm and pauses quite similar to the classic music of the viennese court ballrooms in the nineteenth century. The song features also a quite melancholic video, filmed in Prague (like many others in the same album), in the heart of Europe. We can say it is sort of an European song, but it was created by Australians! And really cool Australians!

In August 1988, INXS (do I need to repeat that we must write it always in capital letters?) were enjoying the top of the success from their album “Kick”. After “Need you tonight“, “Devil inside” and “New sensation“, it was now time for “Never tear us apart”. This new great hit of course found enormous success just like the others! Ok, I think that after more than 30 years, Michael Hutchence deserves at least a statue in his himetown! Did you already sign the petition online? 🙂 We have done it – 80and30.com officially supports the “A statue fro Michael” cause, in the name of a great artist and in the name of the 80s.

I was standing
You were there
Two worlds collided
And they could never, ever tear us apart
