Scialpi and Scarlett – Pregherei (Let the day)
“Pregherei”, after thirty years, remains one of the symbols and milestones of Summer 1988. When Summer was over, in September, a very popular music show called “Festivalbar” celebrated in Italy the most successful hits of the year. As we can see, two great artists won the edition of 1988, with a wonderful song. “Pregherei” speaks directly to our feelings like very few songs can do, thirty years ago and still today. These feelings go well beyond lyrics and music. In fact Scialpi and Scarlett succeeded in taking this song even higher, if possible. Not only with their fantastic voices, but with performances that are simply perfect. Their look was perfect, their talent was huge, their romance was the ideal scenery for this song. And their final performance in wedding dresses, is really really history.
Scialpi was at the top of his career (which actually continues still today without interruptions), and after his best sellers “Rocking rolling”, “Cigarettes and coffee“, “No east no west“, he confirmed to be of the greatest Italian singers. Scarlett, an extremely beautiful woman, introduced herself as a choir voice for Living in a box and Kissing the Pink, and now was ready to be the female voice of this hit.
Scarlett really is a very strong woman. She reacted with great strength and boldness to her sad fate. In 1995 she faced a serious car accident near the Coliseum in Rome. Despite going quite slow, she lost the ability to use her legs, and went through a very very hard period. Yet after some years, Scarlett appeared again on stage to transfer her courage to those who were suffering and losing their hope, with the help of her marvellous voice.
That’s why I think that “Pregherei” really is a timeless song. Still a modern, fantastic, deeply emoytional elegy. And finally, it’s always beautiful to hear once again the voices of these two great, great artists.
#quotefromthe80s
Prendi il mio nome lei mi chiama amore ormai
Portati via tutti i gioielli miei
Con i capelli miei io mi rivestirò
Vivrò di quei sogni che lui mi darà
