Simple Minds – This is your land

Simple Minds released “This is your land” about in mid-April 1989. This was the second hit out of the great album “Street fighting years”, after the leading track “Belfast child“. From the very title, the song is an anthem to the planet care, a very modern topic as well! Actually Jim Kerr and his friends were not really scared about global warming, that in 1989 was much less visible. They probably feared some nuclear nightmare, maybe due to a war or an incident, that would have polluted the planet forever.

The hit is very peculiar from a musical perspective, a sort of elegy. And it features also a special guest! In fact, at the beginning of the third verse we can clearly hear the voice of Lou Reed! He is almost speaking, and he was an icon even for the Simple Minds!

Finally, we can say that this song deserves a lot of respect. And also the video, filmed in Spain, is definitely appropriate for such an important topic.

Walk down the track, to the old railroad track
I wanna leave something to see
This is your land, laid out in your hand
This is your land
