“When all’s well” gave worldwide success to a group with a peculiar name. Everything…but the girl! In these very days on 1985 Everything But The Girl (or simply EBTG) released “Love and money”, one of their best albums. Tracey Thorn had this look so minimal but was a fantastic singer, and they were actually a fantastic group! They were so great together that they actually married and are now parents of three!
What a story, in the advertisement of a Hull furniture shop who promised to sell, for your new bedroom, everything but….
And actually this album, “Love and Money” was not an easy album at all, showing musical portraits of the industrial Northern England deeply modified by the reforms of the government of Mrs Thatcher. Modified not always in the best way, we can say, at least for the inhabitants of those zones.
It’s a fact, however, that Everything But The Girl, Ben and Tracey, succeeded in created a group with a cool, peculiar sound. This sound is still enjoyable and very characteristic after more that 30 years. And is still modern even if, from a lot of perspectives, times, politics, and also music have changed so much!
