I’ll be there for you reached the market on the fourth day of the fourth month in 1989, when Bon Jovi released the third (unfortunately not the fourth) single from New Jersey, their fourth album. This song came soon after Bad medicine and Born to be my baby. It’s a powerful and very intense love ballad, and it immediately reached fans’ hearts. And it was no surprise, honestly, because at those times Bon Jovi were probably at the peak of their fame. This hit reached number one in the US charts while in Europe it had to stay in mid ranking positions, and it was the fourth Bon Jovi hit to reach the top, after You give love a bad name, Livin’ on a prayer and again Bad medicine.

Of course this song is a pillar of Bon Jovi’s concerts, and it happened sometimes to find that Richie Sambora was singing it instead of Jon Bon Jovi. It’s not really clear how they came up with this song; some say it’s similar to other hits, others say they had the inspiration from other songs that were never included in any album. I mean, at the end this is not really sure.

The video shows the band performing on a stage surrounded by a pale blue light. There are a number of close-ups for all band members, but it is weird that Richie Sambora’s face is always in the shadow throughout all the video. And he was one of the authors of this song, and as we said, sometimes he acted as lead singer.
The images of the blue stage are interspersed with frames from a real concert held in Wembley arena.

I’ll be there for you is definitely a wonderful song and it has been warming fans’ hearts for more than thirty years!
