Edie Brickell & New Bohemians – What I am
“What I am” reminds us of the importance of choosing the right names and titles. Especially when they are very long! In the early months of 1989 Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians reached the top of the charts with this excellent song. If you think that the band has a long name, don’t forget the title of the album! They called it “Shooting rubberbands at the stars”. If you went to music shop, and asked for this album saying also the name of the group, you surely spent a couple of days in there!
Anyway, this song mad this band and their lead singer very famous worldwide. A new career was born. Actually, not long tome after this album, Edie changed her life in order to follow her heart. She was guest in a tv show, the Saturday Night Live, and she was singing while she saw Paul Simon (without Garfunkel) looking at her. They immediately fell in love like in the most obvious movie. Few months later she left the band and married him. It is also true that during the following years she made a lot of other experiences as a singer and with many bands.
But I think she did the right thing, I mean, even if he is 25 years older, but after 30 years they are a strong family, mother and father of three!
