The Cure – Why can’t I be you?
“Why cant I be you” is one of the most popular songs by The Cure and Robert Smith. I said it. In 1987 the Cure were at the top of their pop phase, and some say in the full of their maturity phase. In April 1987 they released the album “Kiss me kiss me kiss me”.
The video is quite weird. The director said it was “The video I always wanted to make”. One of the Cure’s biographers defined the video of “Why cant I be you” as “some of the most poorly choreographed dancing ever seen on MTV”. It’s a funny description, isn’t it?
We said that this was the period of Cure’s artistical maturity. But I say, can we talk about maturity for an absolute genius like Robert Smith? Can we expect that he just slows up living like a regular quiet guy? 🙂

I'm smitten I'm bitten I'm hooked I'm cooked
I'm stuck like glue
You make me, make me, make me, make me hungry for you
