Bananarama – Love in the first degree
“Love in the first degree” seemed perfect to become the soundtrack for a wedding. It sounded like the wedding of the decade, had it happened three or four years earlier. Dave Stewart, technical brain of Eurythmics, married Siobhàn Fahey, Bananarama’s brunette. She still looks so shy and quiet, and soon she would reinvent herself as a dark gothic lady in the rest of her career.
Therefore, it could be the wedding of the decade, but it happened late, in a tired phase for both bride and groom. Eurythmics started a new phase with “Savage”, probably less commercial than “Would I lie to you” or “Revenge”. Even Bananarama were sort of lying on standard rhythms and sounds… of course! They were completely standardized in the three producers formulas, and we can see in this song!

You will come to my rescue
Unchain my heart, you’ll keep him
Let me start a new (you)
