Rick Astley – Together Forever

When “Together forever” startd its journey towards the top of the charts, in February 1988, it immediately gathered a great success, but it also raised some doubts. Success was clear, in fact this song reached number 1 in the US, for example. But also doubts and concerns. The song was very very similar to “Never gonna give you up” and “Whenever you need somebody“: the touch of the three serial producers was evident. The song featured all the elements of the Stock-Aitken-Waterman recipe: usual rhythm and usual chords, the same fifty words in the lyrics, the video with three girls on chorus, even the soft tones in the video and the horizontal stripes! It was a beautiful song, of course, but I think that Rick’s voice and career deserved someting more!

The song stopped at number 2 in the UK: at number 1 there was another song which was absolutely similar: Kylie Minogue’s “I should be so lucky“, similar song and similar video. And actually it was another S-A-W song!!!

You know you satisfy everything in me
We shouldn’t waste a single day
So don’t stop me falling
It’s destiny calling
