Talk Talk – Such a shame

“Such a shame” started as a single in March 1984. Due to one of destiny’s joke, I still associate it to the back to school period of September 1984. School began again, but when you came home at 2PM you could always see Deejay Television on TV, with their sing-a-song, their specials, their new hits. And maybe also the fantastic opening song “Audio/video” by my friend Fitz :).

“Such a shame” passed in the “new hit” section… and what a fantastic hit! Talk Talk released it as the second single from the album “It’s my life”, after the song “It’s my life”. This video is fantastic! But the whole song is an unforgettable masterpiece. Mark Hollis was inspired by one of his favorite books, “The Dice Man” by Luke Rhinehart. In fact dice are everywhere in the video. When the press asked Mark why this choice, he replied that it was a good book, but not a lifestyle he would recommend.

In any case, this song is still on the radios after 30 years, and the video, with Mark’s weird expressions, is simply fantastic!!! As we all know, Mark left us in February 2019. His talent and genius will be sadly missed for decades.

#quotefromthe80s
The dice decide my fate, and that's a shame
In these trembling hands
My faith tells me to react, I don't care
