Pink Floyd – Another brick in the wall
Shifting to a new decade has always been a special moment in time. At the end of an year with the ending 9, and with the beginning of a new decade, we feel the need to summarize the ten past years in few words, even if ten years are quite a long period, full of days, events, people, and of course songs.
At the beginning of 1980 there was a lot of hope in Italy; the 70s are still referenced as dark years, or “years of lead”, with people shooting in the roads, blasting bombs, people afraid of living their lives. The 80s needed to take us beyond this wall. Actually the end of the decade is always a wall, a sort of border, even if it ultimately takes just one second between a moment and the next, and the champagne flows at midnight, and it all seems so natural.
The charts at the beginning of the 80s were like this: the groovy experimental sounds of the 70s were slowly flowing into the smooth electronics of the 80s, even if many topics were tough and challenging. At the top of the charts we found a hit that would remain forever a piece of history for many reasons: music, lyrics, video, authors. Pink Floyd are really a timeless and ageless group, with an eternal career, and “Another brick in the wall” was definitely one of their greatest hits, and took us directly into the 80s.
Even if we know that from a musical perspective, the 80s began some months later… but we will soon talk about it again!
