Jimmy Somerville & June Miles Kingston – Comment te dire adieu
November 1989 was coming to the end when Jimmy Somerville released his new hit. It was a duet between the former Bronski Beat and Communards leader, and June Miles Kingston, a vocalist and drummer who played also for Everything But the Girl.
This was definitely not a new song; it was actually an old song, comuing from 30 years before. Françoise Hardy recorded it in 1968, with sounds and arrangements which seemed to come from one thousand years before Jimmy Somerville’s era. Actually that version was a cover too, and it covered a British 1966 song. So finally this song is British, then Françoise Hardy covers it in French, then after thirty years two very British guys cover the French cover of the British song.
Of course, even if the song is old, it does not mean that it’s not beautiful! In fact, Jimmy Somerville’s creative genius, who already showed up in “Never can say goodbye” e “Don’t leave me this way” succeeded in creating a great video and a very modern arrangement, and this kicked Jimi’s solo career off into the 90s!
