Bobby McFerrin – Don’t worry be happy
I think that “Dont worry be happy” is the perfect song for the transition from Summer to Autumn. It happened also in 1988: days getting shorter, temperatures getting lower. In those days the world of music learnt a very simple song, an irresistible melody. Bobby McFerrin was a complete musician born and grown in music. He loved to perform entire jazz concerts just jamming and improvising. He fell in love with “a philosophy in four words”, as he said. Bobby learnt the four words from an Indian mystic and sage, Meher Baba. He often saw in bars and pubs small portraits and pictures of Meher Baba. The sage appeared with his famous sentence: “Don’t worry be happy”. These posters looked like todays’s memes, in other words.
Bobby then entered the recording studio just improvising a melody and some lyrics. He invented an experiment by recording his own voice twice and overlap the recordings. And finally Bobby created a worldwide famous hit. A success that people still play after decades, with a very simple refrain melody.
It happened only once that Bobby McFerrin really was not that happy. He came to know that a political party in the USA adopted his song as the anthem of their presidential campaign. And of course, Bobby supported the opposite party! 🙂

In every life we have some trouble
But when you worry you make it double
Don't worry, be happy
