George Michael and Aretha Franklin – I knew you were waiting (for me)
“I knew you were waiting” is a great song, that triggers sadness now. Really destiny is weird! In early 1987 George Michael lived his golden age, and he appeared almost everywhere. People recognized him as Wham! frontman, he appeared as solo artist. Many credited him somehow also for Pepsi and Shirlie’s success as we have seen. But he also acted in a special collaboration with a top class artist!!
In fact, he met with the great Aretha Franklin to sing this hit that found a worldwide success. Aretha never reached number one in the charts in England before, for example, and she succeeded with George. We also need to say that Aretha and George did not happen to have many other points in common afterwards.
As we know, we lost them in near periods. We lost George on Christmas 2016, and Aretha in August 2018. They lived different ages, it is true, but it is a fact that they both were fantastic artists. They left a sense of emptiness in their fans, and will be deeply missed by all those like us who loved and still live in the 80s.
