The Pasadenas – Tribute (Right on)
When “Tribute (Right on)” climbed the charts, it was June 1988. The first huge success by Pasadenas went at top positions in England, Netherlands and many other countries. The story seemed weird: an unknown group, british with American people. So american in their sounds and name, Pasadenas, hometown to some of them. They did a very pure soul music, which seemed to come directly from the 50s. And they did not try to modernize it or elaborate it for young people. Also the title of their song was a tribute to the masters of rock and roll and soul.
They named all those great artists in the lyrics, from Elvis Presley to Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Jimi Hendrix, Ike and Tina Turner, up to Diana Ross’ Supremes and ad Aretha Frankin.
So finally, they did a real tribute to the story of rock and roll and soul, as the lyrics say!!
