A feeling of deja-vu, but beautiful

New Order – True faith

When we first saw the video of True Faith, in July 1987, it definitely was really appealing, like the song. Actually I always had the feeling that the video was recalling elements from other videos that we already knew and liked, carefully mixed. Anc if I’m not wrong, it won prizes as best video of the year.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I see in it the planned mess of Sledgehammer, I see lots of quotes from Grace Jones’ Slave to the Rhythm, and the first scenes just look like the faceslaps in Kim Carnes’ “Bette Davis Eyes“, where the slaps exactly follow the percussions pace! But definitely, a great song and a great video! With the added value that the title never appears in the song lyrics!

#quotefromthe80s
When I was a very small boy,
Very small boys talked to me
Now that we've grown up together
They're afraid of what they see
