U2 with B.B. King – When love comes to town
I mean, B.B. King! Of course, because in 1987 the great blues man went in tour to Dublin. U2 were free that night, and absolutely wanted to see the concert and meet him. He was pleased to find that they admired him so much, and after some courtesy exchange, King asks Bono for a sort of prayer: one day, please think of me, when you’ll write a song.
Bono doesn’t forget these words. After some time he calls King and shows him a powerful song, talking about love but also about Jesus. King is impressed: the lyrics show great maturity, and they belong to a 24-year old guy! Ok, B.B. King accepts and will sing this song in some concerts with U2! And here we are at the beginning of May 1989, when U2 release this song as the third single from the album “Rattle and Hum”, after “Desire” and “Angel of Harlem“.
That’s the story! U2 played this song in their concerts for some more years, but they dropped it in mid 90s. Only B.B. King continued playing the song in his concerts. But when he left this world in May 2015, U2 played again this song in their concerts for their friend.
#quotefromthe80s
When love comes to town I'm gonna jump that train
When love comes to town I'm gonna catch that flame
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down
But I did what I did before love came to town
