Sting – Ellas danzan solas

Sting released “Ellas danzan solas”, the spanish version of “They dance alone”, on February 16, 1988, included in the extended play “Nada como el sol”, which of course was the latin version of “Nothing like the sun”. “Nada como el sol” was an extended play, a weird format used mainly by deejay for remixed versions. It was a 45 rpm record as big as a 33 rpm. It usually contained approximately 20 minutes of music, 4 or 5 songs. The songs were of course in spanish and portuguese, and “Fragile” became “Fragilidad” and “Fràgil”.

The most important song however was the spanish version of “They dance alone”, “Ellas danzan solas”. It witnesses Sting’s commitment against the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet in Chile, and also the desaparecidos tragedy in Argentina, with the participation to the concert of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, directly in their own language.
