George Michael – Monkey
Of course it’s George Michael’s Monkey. It followed other major hits like “I want your sex“, “Faith“, “Father Figure” and “One more try“. And also this song easily reached number one in the charts. The song is really enjoyable, really pop.
The video has a double story. There are scenes in black and white where George sings but most of all, dances. Of course, because the choreographer of the video was the great Paula Abdul! We knew her in the 80s as a good singer, mostly. But in the following years she proved to be a phenomenal choreographer, director and producer.
Then, the second part of the video features scenes from a live show. And it really reminds me of Michael Jackson’s “Dirty Diana”. Maybe it’s the energy, maybe it’s the colors of the video.
Maybe that only Michael and George succeeded in having more than four hits in a row at number one, taken from the same album… Also a girl named Whitney had seven hits in a row at number one, but taken from two different albums!
But after all, Michael, George and Whitney were all real icons of the 80s, this is a fact!
