Rick Astley – She wants to dance with me
“She wants to dance with me” is a milestone in Rick Astley’s career. For many reasons. It is the first hit in Rick’s second album, “Hold me in your arms”. He released the hit in September 1988, ahd the album a couple of months later. One year had passed since he released his first album, “Whenever you need somebody”, an iconic record which included some of his greatest hits like “Never Gonna Give You Up“, “Whenever You Need Somebody“, o “Together Forever“.
With this album Rick started to move away from the three producer and music-flatteners Stock, Aitken e Waterman. This is another reason for the importance of this album. In fact, Astley himself composed about half of the album tracks. For these tracks, he chose new producers.
Rick did not make random moves, however: he had already decided to leave the dance-pop of the three producers, always similar in every song. In fact, this album marked the last phase of collaboration between Astley and the trio Stock-Aitken-Waterman.
Maybe Rick found bigger success with other hits, but he composed this song all on his own. And he definitely choose his path towards a new phase of his career!

Now I know I've been out of touch
And I never meant to hurt my baby oh so much
'Cos I love her and I think she love me
And that's the way it's got to be
