Frankie Goes To Hollywood – Welcome to the Pleasuredome
In March 1985, “Welcome to the Pleasuredome” means probably the highest point of Frankie Goes To Hollywood success. With three great hits they hit three times the number one in the charts, and their video were simply glamorous success. Of course I’m talking about “Relax“, “Two tribes” and “The power of love“. This pushed Holly Johnson and friends to announce the release of their “fourth number one”! Actually this did not bring luck: this song reached number two, but did not go further. And since that moment, they never reached the top of the charts again.
Of course this remains a great video with a great style. A sort of short movie, a kind of British “Thriller”. Not only for its length and structure, but also for some dark and gothic atmosphere. Some kind of mix between “Thriller” and “The day after”. It also reminds of “Mad Max beyond Thunderdome”, which came out one year later, and also contains the word “dome”, Were FGTH some kind of influencers for the movie?
Anyway, I think this is a fantastic video. The first phrase pronounced by Holly is really a manifesto of FGTH style at the top of their success: “The world is my oyster!”

Shooting stars never stop
Even when they reach the top
There goes a supernova
