Phil Collins – A groovy kind of love
Phil Collins released “A groovy kind of love” at the end of Summer 1988, for the soundtrack of the movie “Buster”, released in those days. Actually he covered a song of 1965, but he did an excellent job. That movie was not bad at all as well. Phil did a wonderful performance as an actor, and he received prizes and nominations.
Buster tells the story of Buster Edwards, a member of the gang who in 1963 organized the Great Train Robbery to the Royal Mail train headed from Glasgow to London. With this awkward action they stole about 3 million pounds, but the police reached many of them within few days. Actually Buster succeeded in escaping and flying to Acapulco. His girlfriend June could reach him only after months. Actually, she never adapted to this new life, and later she decided to come back to London.
Buster lives in Acapulco when he realized that he is celebrating alone the world cup victory in 1966. And in this moment he realizes that money and luck alone do not make happiness and love. So he decides to come back to London, in order to join his beloved June again. He knows that he will be immediately arrested when he lands in London. Yet he goes, and he later faces a 15-years of jail condemnation.
Isn’t this a great story? Actually someone already told it in a pop hit! Paul Hardcastle did in 1985! He told this story in his “Just for money”, from the eponymous album “Paul Hardcastle”. In other words, “19” was the second track, and “Just for money” was the fourth track. I think I’m the only guy in Italy who still has a copy of that vynil, maybe!
Finally, I think that this is a very very British story! Nobody could tell it better than Phil Collins!!
